Kymi Figs
Dried Kymi Figs are a unique product of the Greek land, recognized as a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) product by the European Union. This product is produced exclusively in the Kymi region, in Evia, from a local variety of fig trees, numbering approximately 25,000 trees.
The first references to the distinctive form of Kymi figs date back to around the 16th century. They have rich and very flavorful flesh; however, due to their thin skin, they are very delicate during transport and therefore not marketable as fresh fruit.
The production process of Dried Kymi Figs is traditional and requires special care. The figs are hand-picked, naturally sun-dried, and retain their natural sweetness without the addition of preservatives or other additives. This results in a high-quality product, rich in dietary fiber and in vitamins A, B, and C, as well as potassium, calcium, phosphorus, and iron, without salt or cholesterol and with low calories.
The commitment of local producers to preserving the traditional method of cultivation and processing ensures the authenticity and quality of the product, making the Dried Kymi Fig PDO a true treasure of Greek gastronomy.
